Chinese, simplified.

Comprehensive, customizable, and centralized: Confucius serves all of your Chinese studying needs, just in time for your next assessment.

What is Confucius?

Confucius is a mobile app designed specifically for language learning. Similar to apps like Quizlet, Confucius is built around a flashcard-aided learning experience, however, dissimilar to existing apps, Confucius has pioneered a multi-sided flashcard (best visualized as a triangular prism) to create a more dynamic study experience. But that's not all - Confucius also has integrated space to practice writing Chinese characters, so you can master both the spoken and written language.

Multi-sided Flashcards

Confucius' proprietary, patent-pending multi-sided flashcard template allows users to experience language-learning in its most comprehensive form — one side for each component of a Chinese word (character, pinyin, translation).

Native marketplace

The Confucius app features a native market place of pre-populated flashcard decks corresponding with your in-class textbooks, or Confucius' own learning programs.

Confucius has integrated space for handwriting characters in an iterative, e-flashcard format — think spell check for Chinese.

  • What is Confucius?
Confucius is a flashcard app most similar to Quizlet. However, unlike existing study tools, Confucius offers students the ability to create elaborate information systems presented on a single flashcard.
  • Why Chinese?
As students of the Chinese language, we have experienced, first-hand, the unique difficulties associated with learning, memorizing, and retaining Chinese. While there are many things that make learning Chinese complicated for an English speaker, the primary challenge for most is relatively obvious: instead of having to learn two things (a word and its meaning), Chinese learners have to learn three (a word, its meaning and its character). In addition to the three-sided aspect of our app, Confucius also provides settings for character writing practice — picture spell check for Chinese characters. To resolve these challenges, we are building Confucius to provide students a better study tool. Did you know? Chinese is a level IV language, which means it takes three times as long for an English speaker to become proficient in Chinese as it does to become proficient in a language that shares a similar meaning, spelling, and pronunciation with English (which are referred to as cognate languages).
  • Do I have to study Chinese to use Confucius?
No! While we initially designed this experience for Chinese learners in particular, it has become clear through development and testing that the Confucius theory has applications beyond the Chinese language. We are testing early concepts in other disciplines, including: the sciences (Chemistry, in particular); other logographic languages (Arabic, for example); and in any situation where a student would benefit from an elaborate information system being presented on a single flashcard.
